Welcome to Second Bloom

What a great idea it is to recycle flowers!  That’s what Second Bloom is all about.  We collect perfectly good flowers that are headed to the landfill and spread them around to appreciative residents in nursing homes, rehab centers and Hospice.

Second Bloom is a non-profit business in North Carolina that relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses for flowers, volunteers and monetary support.  We are currently going to seven facilities in Asheville and Black Mountain, making and distributing over 400 small bouquets each week.  With your help we plan to continue to grow, reaching more facilities and impacting the lives of more residents in 2009.

We receive donations of flowers from grocery stores, weddings, funerals, special occasions and corporate events.  When you donate your flowers, they are made into small floral arrangements for the residents of each facility we visit to have in their rooms.  Some of the residents actually help us make the bouquets.

For those residents who have had to give up gardening or tending to the beauty of flowers, our service offers them the opportunity to re-engage in activity that is creative, satisfying and rewarding.  And for those that receive the bouquets each week, the beauty of the flowers and the contact of the weekly exchange is something that nourishes and brightens their lives.

It is the small, simple things we do that make the difference – like the heart-warming exchange of a few flowers.
