MORRIS FUNERAL HOME

Since 1919 Morris Funeral Home has been supporting people with sensitivity and compassion during difficult times. Personal care and attention to detail - at fair and affordable prices - have earned their firm its excellent reputation.
We received a donation from a family service they held and the flowers were gorgeous. We had enough to go to two of the facilities we service, making small, colorful arrangements to hand out to all the residents.
Morris Funeral Home is well versed in the traditions of most religious and ethnic groups and is equipped to respond to a variety of requests. They are Asheville’s only member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes - the premier international association of independent, locally owned funeral establishments. Membership in SIFH is by invitation and is extended only to funeral homes that meet the highest standards of practice.
Because Morris Funeral Home have never been content with just “ordinary” funeral service, they have established a reputation highly regarded in Asheville . . . a reputation for thoughtful, dignified service under all circumstances. They are located at 304 Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. Phone 252-1821

FLOWERED EVENTS

These photos are just a couple of examples of the arrangements you can get for your wedding or other special occasion from Flowered Events. They have a great website with lots of photos of flowers they’ve done for all kinds of weddings.
Lizzee Dickman, the owner, has volunteered with Second Bloom many times. Whenever she’s around, we all pay close attention to what she’s doing and we try to imitate it. Not nearly as successfully as Lizzee, but it’s been great fun trying. She has a lot of experience and knowledge creating just the right touch with flowers for any event you might want. Call Flowered Events at 828-676-0995 or go to their website to learn more: www.floweredevents.com
RAY AND ALLEN FUNERAL SERVICE
The Ray family has been in Asheville since the 1930’s helping people who have lost loved ones. In 1996 the Ray family purchased the business at their current location at 127 McDowell Street, thus creating Ray and Allen Funeral Service. The photo on the left is of Bryant Baird, office manager and son of Jesse Ray, Jr. It’s worth reading a bit of their history, which is
Asheville’s history, and you can do that on their website: www.rayandallenfuneralservice.com.
This morning we received our first donation of flowers from a service that they held yesterday. The flowers are quite fresh and beautiful and the generous donation will bring joy to many. We’re very pleased to have Ray and Allen Funeral Service as one of our donors.

CLEMENTS FLOWER SHOP

Clements has absolutely gorgeous flowers, brilliant colors filling their display case as you come in the door. It lifts your spirits just to come into their store. But it’s not just the effect of seeing all those beautiful flowers, it’s how happy everyone who works there seems to be. Above on the left is a photo of Richard, Holly, Sandy and John.
Above on the right is a photo of Richard with Loretta Heiser, of the BLT Girls. She made our initial introduction to Clements for us and we arrived to find carnations, red roses and baby’s breath ready for us to take to Highland Farms Retirement Community. Those flowers were stunning and really fun to work with. As you can see from the photo of Richard and Loretta, Clements is a very fun place to shop! Stop by their storefront at 462 Sweeten Creek Road or call them at (828) 274-2140.
TERPSICORPS
It was a wonderful gala, fundraising event that Terpsicorps, Theatre of Dance, held New Year’s Eve at Shay Brown Events on Wall Street in Asheville.
They donated the flowers from their event and we took them to the Laurels of Green Tree Ridge, where they were greatly appreciated. Terpsicorps is a fabulous dance troupe that we are incredibly fortunate to have here in Asheville. We book our tickets early for their performances. If you have yet to see them, they are well worth it. Their performances are creative, innovative and inspiring. Great talent and we’re glad they are here. If you like dance, this is a company that you will want to support.
FESTIVA RESORTS
This is a photo of Sara Bader of Festiva Resorts, the morning after their corporate holiday party. Festiva donated both of the large arrangements to us. Sara found out about us through the press release from early December. Festiva Resorts is a family of boutique interval ownership resorts located in some prime spots in the US and Caribbean. Their home office here in Asheville is a beautiful old estate on top of the tunnel of Tunnel Road. We are happy to now have Festiva Resorts as one of our generous donors. Find out more about what they offer at www.FestivaResorts.com.
BLOOMIN’ ART
Beth Stickle of Bloomin’ Art has a beautifully decorated storefront at 60 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. She has been in business since 1987, beginning as a grower. She now designs floral art for any occasion, creates exeptional wildflower
weddings and has a store full of irrestible home accessories. Plus she’s got a huge glass cooler full of flowers! ‘Flowers so fresh they talk back.’ You can tell she is an artist simply by looking at her storefront windows or by looking at the displays she has in her store. The photo on the right is a view from the cooler into the store, which gives you an idea of how festive it was. I found Beth on a busy Monday morning with a store full of customers. Stop by and see all that she has to offer or call her at 828-254-6447.
LOLA SALON AND GALLERY

Many of Lola’s clients come to her the day of their wedding to get their hair and makeup done, so they feel as beautiful as they truly are! Often their wedding is at The Biltmore Estate, with flowers to donate to Second Bloom after their ceremony. Lola, aka Rebecca Biggers, owns Lola Salon and Gallery at 60 Biltmore Avenue, right in the heart of
downtown Asheville. It is a retro/modern hot spot with 12 stylists that do haircuts (everything from everyday to ultra-sleek), color, wedding and special occasion styles, the works. They also feature local art and gifts. The atmosphere inside is laid back and full of life. I think of Lola as ‘Hairdresser to the Stars’ - one of those stars is you. Check Lola out on Facebook at ‘Lola Makes Me Beautiful Fan Club’ or call 828-236-3456.
YOUR VASE OR MINE

Judy Garry, of Your Vase or Mine, is a master gardener here in East Asheville. For whatever occasion you may be planning, you can ‘pick your own’ locally grown flowers right from her garden.
Pick from hundreds of varieties of flowers. Judy’s garden is in full bloom from mid-May through October.
By the bucket, by the vase or by the stem, there is nothing quite like fresh-cut flowers from her garden.
Contact Judy to discuss your floral needs. Her flowers would love to meet you! You can email her: yourvaseormine@charter.net Or phone: 828-299-4394

BILTMORE ESTATE
There are several beautiful event venues at The Biltmore Estate: Deerpark, Lioncrest, The Stable Cafe, The Inn at Biltmore. We usually arrive at the Biltmore Estate just before it opens in the morning so we can pick up flowers from an event the night before. The grounds are spectacular, the flowers are spectacular and so we don’t mind getting up at a specatacularly early time to arrive there. Everyone at the Biltmore has been incredibly helpful and welcoming.

The Biltmore Estate Floral Displays Department gave us a great start. We met with Cathy Barnhardt and Betsey Baker as we were just beginning. They were excited about what we were doing and it fit in great with their efforts to green up their own department. Cathy sent word out about us to every single Biltmore employee! Their early support and encouragement provided a real boost for us.

Call Tara - she’ll help you with your destination wedding, your large hometown bash or your small intimate gathering. She’ll save you time and money and help relieve the stress that can come with all the planning. Check out her website to find out all the services she offers. www.weddingswithtara.com
THE CREST CENTER
The Crest Center is a spectacular setting for any celebration! Views of the Biltmore Estate on one side and our western mountains on the other. It was a great place to be early on a Sunday morning. The Pavillion, where we got these flowers, is a huge glass enclosed structure that can hold several hundred people and is an ideal setting for weddings and other large gatherings. Blossoms at Biltmore Park did the flowers for this event and Second Bloom got the call to action. We were on the move, stuffing the truck to overflowing proportions!
FRESH MARKET

Fresh Market is one of our most consistent donors! We visit their stores in both Asheville and Hendersonville a couple of times each week. Pictured on the left is Louise, from the north Asheville store. And below is Sarah, from the Hendersonville store. They call when they have flowers for us and we come running. Within
an hour we’ll have them spread out on a table at a local nursing home, Hospice or long term care facility. There, with help from some of the residents, we cut and arrange the flowers into small bouquets for each of the rooms. Fresh Market is known for their fabulous, fresh flowers, as you can see from the photos. To see why Asheville and Hendersonville like them so much, visit their website: www.freshmarket.com.
